Cage-free poultry houses: the American experience

A brand new cage-free poultry farm was built in Ohio. All indoor processes are controlled by the Fortica® sensor-based poultry automation system from Hotraco Agri. It is fundamentally different from the automation of cage and colony farms. The Fortica® system has special software to control and monitor these cage-free farms. This is because ventilation, nest monitoring and egg counting require a different approach in cage-free housing. The age and weight of the birds are also taken into account. This system provides a comfortable and stable environment for laying hens, better egg production, and a pleasant working environment for the staff. 

In addition to climate, the Fortica® system also controls feed, water, lighting and weighing. This control data can be used to create an optimal climate in the house.
