How does water affect the health of rabbits?

How rabbits get water
There are several types of drinkers used in private households, farms and decorative animal husbandry.

In cup drinkers, water is poured into a small cup, which is automatically refilled by a float mechanism. In this case, the rabbit can drink naturally from an open surface, and the bowl is refilled as it is consumed. However, the water is easily contaminated, especially if the rabbit plays with it or the bedding.
Bottled drinkers, or gravity drinkers, are closed bottles that are attached to the cage, and water flows into a special spout or cup by gravity. This is ideal for pets. They make it easy to control the water level.
There are also traditional bowls — ordinary containers from which the rabbit drinks as if from an open source. This is the most natural way to drink, but in this case, the water quickly becomes dirty, the animal can tip over or spill the container, and in winter, it quickly freezes.

How to set up a drinking system for rabbits?
A properly installed water supply system ensures stable operation of the drinking bowl, cleanliness in the cage and the well-being of the animals.
What should be considered during installation? The drinker should be located at chest level or slightly higher so that the rabbit does not bend down too low or raise its head too high. For young animals, the height should be adjusted separately or drinkers with adjustable mounts should be used. Placing the drinker too low leads to contamination.
The material also affects the durability of the drinker. Flexible plastic tubes or silicone hoses are often chosen, as they are easy to connect to nipple or cup drinkers. Metal or reinforced tubes are better suited for stationary systems on farms, as they are more durable and resistant to animal teeth. It is important to avoid cheap materials that quickly become brittle or wear out from sun or frost.
To prevent leaks, use high-quality connections, clamps and seals for all joints.
It is very important to install a filter on the inlet pipe or near the water source. Filtration reduces the amount of sediment on the drinking mechanisms, removes impurities and extends the life of the system.
If the system is used in winter, make sure it is protected from freezing.
