Who would have thought that an ordinary rug could be a real savior for little piglets? Modern pig farms are increasingly using special rugs for newborns - and this is not a whim, but an effective way to preserve the health of young animals.
In the first days of life, a piglet is most vulnerable to the cold. The heat from a lamp or heater often dissipates, but the rug heats up quickly and maintains the temperature exactly where the little ones lie. According to veterinarians, such a solution reduces the risk of colds and losses in the first weeks by 15-20%.
“We put rugs under the first two hundred piglets - and we saw the difference in a week. The young have become more active, eat better and gain weight faster,” shares one of the farmers in the Poltava region.
In addition, the rugs are easy to clean, withstand loads and can last for several years. So this is not an additional expense, but an investment in a healthy start for the herd.
In fact, a piglet rug sounds like a joke, but in practice it can be one of the most effective tools on the farm.
