Experts emphasize that this industry needs to develop technologies, mechanize processes as much as possible, intensify and digitalize production. After the war, we will have to invest in technological re-equipment. Roman Berezovsky, Deputy Director for Livestock at Agroprodservice, emphasized this in an interview with The Ukrainian Farmer magazine. “I assume the use of artificial intelligence - in centralized feeding, housing, detection of sows' heat, etc. via a computer,” he added.
After the war is over, the shortage of personnel will deepen as Ukraine integrates into the EU and the European labor market becomes more accessible.
“Therefore, they will probably look for work abroad (although our industry has quite high salaries),” noted Roman Berezovsky. - “At the same time, young people are reluctant to work at pig farms.
Today, pork prices have risen again, the situation has been stable for several months, but feed is expensive, and margins are low: 5-10%, depending on the level of the farm, he said.
“Many farms that had 1,000 sows or more are increasing their numbers and building new facilities. Larger farms take over small ones because they have the material base and quite professional staff, and this is a development,” said Roman Berezovsky.
